Grasping at straws

A couple of interesting headlines and article excerpts that make me wonder if the far-left hasn’t completely lost it’s mind and is grasping at straws to stay relevant:

CNN analyst compares ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ to rhetoric from ISIS, Nazis, KKK
Constitutionally-protected speech criticizing the administration is racist rhetoric? Or is it only because they are criticizing this administration?

DeSantis’ Democrat challenger compares him to Hitler: ‘In a lot of ways’
Hitler? Really? These claims of every successful opposition politician being a clone of Hitler are getting old…

“If we can’t push through voting rights, we’re going to see a slide towards authoritarianism.”
But federalizing elections isn’t authoritarian?

CNN’s Paul Begala: Democrats don’t have ‘bad leaders,’ they have ‘bad followers’
Typical socialist claim: It’s not the rulers who’ve failed; it’s that the ruled are not pure enough to execute the ruler’s will without question. Isn’t that what every failed socialist/communist regime claims?

President Biden: “Do you want to be on the side of Dr. King or George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?”
And we’re all supposed to forget the fact that George Wallace, Bull Conner and Jefferson Davis were all…. Democrats? WTF?

Seriously?

I guess they can’t claim January 6th was about an attempted government takeover without charges of an attempted government takeover:

DOJ charges Oath Keepers founder, 10 others with seditious conspiracy related to Jan. 6 riot

But seriously – I don’t care what these idiots said between themselves via private chat messages. Does anyone really believe that by crashing the Capital a group (let alone these morons) could actually overthrow the government of the United States? And if that is indeed possible then we have bigger problems than January 6th.

The truth is that these idiots were protesting their government – a constitutionally-protected activity – and things got out of hand. But it is simply not reasonable to believe that their riot could or was meant to overthrow the government. To charge them such serves no purpose other than political grandstanding by the current administration.

Why I am a 2nd Amendment supporter

The headline spells it out:

Chicago police alert residents to burglaries targeting senior citizens

How would your unarmed parents defend themselves from a sudden attack by a group of criminals? Sans a reasonable means of defending oneself, and with such a sudden attack precluding police assistance, all it would take to overpower them is someone stronger – armed or not.

I’ve said it before but it is worth saying again: without a way to fend off a physically or numerically superior attacker we are at the whim of any brute or mob that happens by.

There is a reason why the firearm has been referred to as “the great equalizer”…

Stipends? Really?

Today’s student’s don’t understand the basic economic concept that something has to produced something before it can be seized for redistribution as “free” stuff. But who will work effectively for free to provide stipends for these idiotic students?

Chicago students walk out of class, demand virtual schooling for two weeks and COVID ‘stipends’

I wonder if the teacher’s union had anything to do with this student “strike”?

Liberty dies in small increments

Freedom of speech is usually one of the first casualties:

Washington Democratic Gov. Inslee wants to make lying a crime in certain circumstances

What effect do you think it will have on speech when your opinions – if deemed “lies” by government overseers – may result in your being jailed? And just who gets to determine the “truth”? The administration in power? Social media companies? Democratic donors?

Beware the people (or social media companies) that claim to be the only true arbiters of the truth.

So why did they need to inform Congress?

This is an update to a previous post regarding how a conservative publisher was kicked off of Facebook’s ad platform for violating their rules against “low quality or disruptive content.” The update: Facebook has changed it’s mind and is reinstating their access:

Conservative publisher calls for explanation after Facebook reverses ad ban: ‘They never told us anything’

The real story: Why did they have to notify Congress? From the article cited above:

“They told multiple members of Congress that we were reinstated, but they’ve never actually contacted us directly.”

If Congress is advised with respect to Facebook’s censorship (even before the censored company was notified of Facebook’s decision), doesn’t that constitute government involvement in censorship?  Wouldn’t that be a violation of the 1st Amendment?

Where is the press when you need them? Can you say “investigative report”?

Victimhood as an occupation

Is this what children are being taught in our “progressive” schools? When confronted over your own acts of racism, just double-down and claim racism back?

ASU students found guilty after harassing White students slam college’s punishment: ‘Actually violent’

Sadly, at least one of these two is a graduate student. I didn’t know that ASU had a graduate program in victimhood. I wonder who’s hiring these people?

Thank you, Pastor Brooks.

He’s right. Attempts to generate “equality of outcome” will not lift any up; it will only push us all down. We will have equality all right – as Pastor Brooks puts it, we’ll all be equal “…at the bottom.” We need to instead concentrate on what Pastor Brooks identifies as “equality of opportunity”.
