Really, Bill?

Bill Maher has jumped on the “Democracy at stake” bandwagon of the left-wing body politic and their media friends:

“Democracy is on the ballot, and unfortunately, it’s going to lose and once it’s gone, it’s gone.”

So let me see if I’ve got this correct, Bill: If the liberals lose the election, by a democratic vote of the people, then democracy will be “gone”?

Are you kidding me?? Isn’t this the very definition of “democracy”, a vote of the people to determine who will represent them? Let’s see what Miriam-Webster has to say about that:

 de·moc·ra·cy

a : government by the people
especially : rule of the majority

b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections

See, Bill – the key here is “…periodically held free elections.” Note that it says NOTHING about who wins – that’s a liberal thing, claiming that it’s not democratic if you don’t win. And it’s bullshit. Talk about “election deniers”…

We’re tired of your ilk, Bill. We’re tired of hearing that anything not a parroting of the liberal agenda is hate speech and therefor verboten. We’re tired of being told that certain subjects are too sensitive for our ignorant ears because it might actually make us believe someone other than a left-wing media pundit, and so you and your liberal friends in control of social and news media will simply make it go away. We’re tired of being told that free speech refers to AOC spewing her hatred on Twitter without paying an $8 fee. And we’re tired of being told that anyone who opposes the liberal agenda (or votes Republican) is a Nazi – particularly when Nazi stands for “National Socialist Workers Party” (hardly a Republican-type political entity, wouldn’t you agree?). And who was it that tried to limit opposition speech during Hitler’s rein in Germany? That’s right, Bill – it was the Nazis (in this country, pronounced “far-left Democrats”).

Democracy will be the American people throwing your cohorts out of office for all of their attacks on our democracy over the past two years. You know: extended, unnecessary COVID lock downs; the significant loss of educational promise from our children because the the teacher’s union wanting their members to teach from a beach in Mexico instead of in a classroom;  extreme inflation due to the unwarranted (and unaffordable) giveaway of TRILLIONS of dollars (here and here, for example) in an effort to win votes? And, of course, the assertion that democracy can only continue if these same idiots are in charge?

I say this, Bill: Fuck you. And the donkey you rode in on.

Desperation?

Going for the “burnout” vote? The felon vote, maybe? Or just a desperate move to “buy” votes before the mid-terms?

North Carolina governor pushes to legalize marijuana possession after Biden pardons: ‘End this stigma’

I don’t care if they legalize weed (but I’d hoped they’d have some means to determine intoxication level before doing so), but past possession cases were still violations of the law. If you don’t like the law, then change it; but until then you’re still a criminal if you violate the law.

Note that he’s not offering to pardon the offenders himself. Know why? Because if he did this before the election no past offender would need to vote for him; they’d stay home on poll day and get high. But if he suggests that he might – if he is kept in office – well, hope is a powerful motivator.

But it’s still no different than bribing people for their votes.

Is this the Democracy you want?

A democracy where a duly-elected government leader and her party are labeled “neofacist” by left-leaning American mainstream media, instead of celebrating her as the first female prime minister of Italy? Where “democracy” is defined not as  “…elected by the people…”, but instead by who wins?

It may not be the democracy you envisioned, but it is still democracy. To suggest otherwise – simply because those who won are not of your political persuasion – poses a significant danger to all democratic systems of representation.

The Purge

Well, that’s one way to purge conservatives from the education system:

Over 800 NYC Teachers Fired Over Vaccine Mandate

And this even though Biden has announced that the COVID pandemic is over…??

It’s unfortunate, but this plays right into the liberal takeover of our education system – and the “dumbing-down” of our children so that they don’t question the progressive socialist agenda.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Spin, spin, spin…

How politicians can spin their past statements in excess of reason with a straight face is beyond me. Here’s a great example from John Fetterman:

Fetterman campaign walks back apparent call to ‘free’ every convicted second-degree murderer

Here’s what he allegedly said:

“I hope that it could lead to a conversation that would free close to 1,200 people of a legacy that never made sense, that encompasses victims’ input, encompasses their conduct and behavior in prison…”

He’s talking here about freeing prisoners who have been convicted of 2nd degree murder – literally all of them in Pennsylvania. But he got heat for his stance amid the current crime wave in Democrat lead cities due to soft-on-crime and no-bail “progressive” criminal reforms. To get around this push-back, here’s his campaigns latest “spin” on this issue:

…the Fetterman campaign said his 2021 remarks at the PLSE conference “are being taken out of context,” and that it is not clear, based on Fetterman’s phrasing at the time, that he was talking about freeing people from prison.

Uh, so “… a conversation that would free close to 1,200 people…” was going to free exactly who? People who are not in prison? Oh, and the number of people in Pennsylvania prisons for 2nd degree murder at the time he made the statement? Interestingly, about 1200…

But, you see, it just doesn’t matter. Fetterman supporters aren’t looking for the truth; they’re just looking for a reason to ignore his soft-on-crime stance. Fetterman voters are going to vote Democrat no matter what – they just need a means to clear their conscience while doing so.

Good luck, world. You’re going to need it.

Can’t give a win to Republicans before the primary…

Any other reason to delay the vote in a Democrat-controlled congress on such a bi-partisan, hot-topic issue?

Senate won’t act on same-sex marriage bill until after midterms

Think about it: If the bill failed Democrats could use it to beat Republicans over the head as opposing LGBTQ rights. However, if the bill passed it would show that moderate Republicans are cooperative for truly liberal (not “progressive-liberal”, but liberal as in “liberty”) rights-related cases. It would also undermine the current mantra being spewed by Kamela Harris that the only way forward is to elect Democrats and break the filibuster.

Can’t show Congressional unity like that before a partisan election, now can we? Not if you want control, anyway…

Bad news for Republicans

I’m not a fan of ranked choice voting. In this case I expected it to benefit the Republican candidate (especially in Alaska, where a Republican has held this seat for nearly 50 years). But, alas, people really hate Trump:

Peltola wins U.S. House race, first woman and Alaska Native to represent Alaska in House

The Trump-endorsed candidate (“I can see Russia from my house”) didn’t win 50% of the vote as required in the first round of vote counts – and, in fact, wasn’t even in the lead (the Democrat candidate was ahead by a significant margin). However, the third place candidate – eliminated under ranked-choice and whose votes were redistributed to their 2nd choice candidates – was a Republican. It was expected that their votes would go to the remaining Republican (and Trump-endorsed candidate), Sarah Palin, and give them the win. But, alas, people really hate Trump: only ~50% of these voters actually chose Palin as their 2nd choice. Roughly 21% of these votes had no 2nd choice candidate, and nearly 29% chose the Democrat candidate instead. It was enough for Democrat candidate and native Alaskan Mary Peltola to win the election, replacing the now-deceased Republican congressman (since 1973!) Don Young.

This was an interesting race, in part because ranked choice voting really didn’t change the election results; under the old “majority wins” rule the Democrat would have won anyway. But it does show that some voters will switch parties for their alternate choices if they simply don’t like one of their own party’s candidates. In the words if the iconic Mr. Spock: “Fascinating.”

I still don’t like rank choice voting; I can think of several ways such a system can be gamed (no need to cover them here and give people ideas…!).  But the willingness of voters to change parties for a 2nd choice candidate is intriguing.

Oh, yeah – and moderate voters simply don’t like Trump. Maybe the Democrat strategy of helping Trump candidates win primaries will pay off in the end.

Go figure.

Insidious

I am appalled by the Biden administration’s blatant ploy to buy votes with taxpayer money. But I am not surprised.

FACT SHEET: President Biden Announces Student Loan Relief for Borrowers Who Need It Most

A couple of things to note:

a) The loan forgiveness program will provide “relief” for households making 3.7 times the median household income (a/o 2020) in the United States. Yeah; sounds like it helps poor people to me…

b) If you’ve been a  successful, responsible adult who chose a valuable degree and paid back your student loans – tough. And thanks for all the fish.

But  if you didn’t complete your degree or pay towards your student debt – debt that benefited no one but you – Jackpot! you WIN the student loan lottery (and you get to keep the car you bought instead of paying your student loans).

c) The loan relief will do nothing to lower the cost of college; it will simply shift its cost to others – including those who have not/will not attend college. This cost transfer will be direct via increased taxes, or indirectly via increase costs as tax increases are passed down to consumers. Colleges have no incentive to lower prices as long as the government is footing the bill as written. Similar to electric vehicle prices when sales are supported by government rebates, I expect college cost to rise, not fall.

But by far the most insidious element of the Biden administration’s debt forgiveness program is that students cannot apply for relief now; they instead must wait for the government to develop the program, ensuring that the relief comes after the election. From the White House fact sheet (a/o 8/29/22 5:52pm PDT):

The application will be available no later than when the pause on federal student loan repayments terminates at the end of the year.

This action by the Biden administration – announcing the relief before the process is available – confirms that this is a buy-the-vote effort meant to ensure that the 41 million students now lined up for “free” money will vote Democrat in November.

Sadly, this is not a new tactic by the Biden administration. Biden used a similar tactic in 2021 to campaign for Georgia senators Ossoff and Warnock, stating:

“If you send Jon and the Reverend to Washington, those $2,000 checks will go out the door … The power is literally in your hands.”

It’s becoming increasingly popular ploy, as other Democrat politicians use the same method to buy local elections – such as Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf:

Pennsylvania Gov. Wolf calls for $2,000 payments to help families ‘survive inflation’

His plan? Send $2,000 to families making less than $80,000/year (still 18% above the 2020 U.S. median income) in order to help them fight inflation(?!?). Wolf, however, is an even slyer fox than Biden; he knows that with a Republican-controlled state legislature he won’t actually have to send the money. And he’ll still be able to blame the Republicans for not putting such a bill on his desk. Promising money he won’t actually have to pay – brilliant!

We are on a slippery slope, with Democrats driving our population towards government dependence while destroying the economy through inflationary giveaways. I hope you all have the courage to vote them out of office this November – student loans or not.

Chicken Little’s election strategy

“The sky is falling! The sky is falling – if you elect Republicans to Congress!”

‘The US could lose the right to vote within months’: Top official warns on threat to democracy

How, exactly? By implementing voter ID to secure our elections? Something supported by 75% of the population? How is making sure that each and every vote is valid a “…threat to democracy…”?

I love this line:

In many of the most competitive races for offices with authority over US elections, Republicans nominated candidates who have embraced or echoed Donald Trump’s myth of a stolen election in 2020.

Are you speaking of the Republicans that Democrats helped get nominated – instead of actually leaving it to Republicans –  by interfering with primary elections? You’ve made sure Republican extremists won their primaries, and now you want to use their wins as a campaign tool for Democrats? What gall! (I like gall…) But, as the wise man (or woman, or non-binary) once said: Be careful what you wish for…
